What Do You Do With Your Mistakes?
A project I use to remind myself that it all has value.
A 16x20 canvas… strips of darkroom printing “mistakes” collected over 10 years… a little hodge podge, and I have a reminder staring at me when I sit at my desk… that in life and art, most acts are not really mistakes.
Instead, I define them as snippets that didn’t quite fit right at the time, but I can let them serve as valuable reminders for years to come. In my case, they are there as a metaphor. They remind me that mistakes are okay and in fact, can be perceived differently and can have a purpose!
If you can, love your mistakes too. If you’re an artist who has created something similar from “leftovers”, please drop a link to your post.
I don't often use my own photography in my collage work, but I definitely collect and repurpose detritus and leftovers. I have a big box of finished pieces that will never see the light of day because I wasn't happy with them. I'm planning on painting or drawing into them to further recycle my mistakes.
Many of my mistakes occasionally get into a presentation as examples of, well errors. Some just take up spece in my archive. It never occurred to me to make a collage like you did. That is neat.
