Dear Readers: This is another monthly Lens 2 Lens discussion. This month, there are two chats and this is the second. I hope you find this one inspirational, as I did.
I’m pleased to present another Lens 2 Lens with J. Ashley Nixon. From the about section of his website:
I’m Ashley Nixon, a photographer, filmmaker, writer, and university teacher based in Calgary, Canada. I am a curious explorer and passionate communicator on culture and natural heritage.
My career in business and education has focused on environmental and social performance management and communications, and I have worked in over 30 countries. I teach writing about images at Mount Royal University. I have a Ph.D. in ecology and am proud to be a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society.
To say I was impressed with Ashley’s C.V. is an understatement! So, I was excited to have this discussion.
In this conversation, we explore the relationship between words and pictures and Ashley refers in particular to book creation. As a writer and photographer and also a trained linguist, I find the relationship between words and images fascinating. Both Ashley and I share a similar view about their relationship but in this Lens 2 Lens, we specifically chat about how they manifest in a published narrative.
What followed left me inspired to take the next steps in exploring more published work. I’m curious to know how you’re impacted by this conversation as well.
As I normally like to do with Lens 2 Lens chats, I select a photo or two from my recent work that resonates with the discussion.

And now onto my chat with Ashley:
