LOVE! Where is this museum?

Juliette Mansour's avatar

About 15 minutes north of me in Atlanta!

Darin's avatar

Thanks!

Juliette Mansour's avatar

If you ever get to Atlanta let me know and I'm happy to take you there. Any excuse, actually!

Darin's avatar

Perhaps sometime AFTER summer.

This post and these photos hit. As a kid, I wanted nothing more than to be a train conductor. I had a CN rail outfit with the hat and everything and wore it till it no longer fit. As I got older it was the sound of passing trains that did it for me, my grandma lived near a rural railway crossing and I’d fall asleep to the constantly passing trains. Now that I’m much older, im back to wanting to drive trains again, it’s not likely but I think about it like once a week or more.

How cool! I love when other train lovers reply. I don’t know why they’re so intriguing to me, but someone made a comment about our trains are romantic and that really hit home for me. Thank you for visiting and for your comments!

Birgitte Brøndsted's avatar

Oh, I would love to walk around there with a camera. Great photos, Juliette!

Juliette Mansour's avatar

Thank you Birgitte! I bet you have some possible museums there. They are often not well publicized. If you find one I’d love to see your shots!

Birgitte Brøndsted's avatar

I will have to do some research!

Vintage trains have always fascinated me as well. You have done a masterful job of capturing the essence of the era. Nice to see they remain so well preserved. Great work!

Juliette Mansour's avatar

Thank you very much, Paul. I love knowing another train fan. :)

Beautiful work, the sharpness of the large negatives and Pentax glass is stunning.

Juliette Mansour's avatar

Thank you so much, Mark. I owe my true film love to the Pentax 67, actually.

These are great, Juliette. I think the bathroom shot is a favorite. Wonderful subject!

Juliette Mansour's avatar

Thank you, David. That is one of my favorites for sure.

Thank you very much. This was quite nice. I really enjoyed this.

Juliette Mansour's avatar

I’m so glad to know that! Thank you for visiting.

George Slade's avatar

That medium format b&w is to die for.

Juliette Mansour's avatar

Thank you so much, George. It’s 100% the Pentax and the lenses. Powerhouses.

George Slade's avatar

Do you always develop in HC-110?

That shiny chair and the porcelain sink, amazing.

Juliette Mansour's avatar

Always! I stick with what is reliable. I do have some Rodinal sitting around and wasn't displeased by it, thought.

Kevin Hansen's avatar

Really nice shots, and really nice rail cars. Those interiors are so well preserved!

Juliette Mansour's avatar

Thank you so much, Kevin! As I said to someone else, I mostly credit the Pentax and the lenses. They are magical to me. And yes, the interiors are amazing. Appreciate your comments.

What a great museum - a heaven for photographers...vintage trains hold a romantic fascination for me so I think I'd be there for hours. Your images are wonderful Juliette, a great range of tones and nice crisp whites and blacks...lovely work!

Juliette Mansour's avatar

Thank you so much Lin for the comments and for sharing! I’ve never associated the word, “romantic” with my fascination for trains but you know, I like that…a lot. Maybe you’ve clued me into the “why” of my love for trains. :)

Lin Gregory's avatar

I think I get the idea from the old trains of my youth where you could pull down the window and lean out to say goodbye, or old classic trains like the Orient Express or the Flying Scotsman - and then there's the film Brief Encounter...it's funny how they leave an impression that only surfaces when I really think about it! I bet you'd find some in your memory if you dug deep Juliette.😊

Juliette Mansour's avatar

I love that image, Lin!!

George Slade's avatar

Some great b&w train movies, too. Romantic and dramatic.

Todd Haughton's avatar

Oh wow, this looks like a really fun place to visit! I love old trains, and especially love seeing the interior images in this set. The way you photographed the rooms with the vintage decor in B&W makes me think I’m looking at old photos from a historical archive - very cool!

Juliette Mansour's avatar

Thank you Todd! The lenses on the Pentax 67 are to me, what makes shooting with that camera such a joy. It’s my favorite look, overall. I agree that the interior is the extra fun part!

Juliette, I love these photographs. Well done. A 1950/60s typewriter! I have one very similar which I use. I must visit this museum.

Juliette Mansour's avatar

You should! It’s wonderful. The typewriter — I have one too. It’s a Royal brand that belonged to my father. I think it’s from the 50s. I keep meaning to research its value. Thank you for your kind comments.
