Ok, so that fifth image is awesome!

To capture three people, one face covered with a beautiful shadow, another person’s back and then the shadow of the third person on the second’s person’s back all in this beautiful composition is mastery!!

I’m a big fan of Omar. I got into his work around the time I picked up my X-T20, and I loved that camera. Lately, I’ve been thinking about getting an X-T10. just dedicated to B&W shorts (Noir i just love the way that word just rolls off the tongue. 🙂)

Great to have another Omar fan around! I thought about that X-T10 too. It has a great reputation. Let me know if you go there.

This is a cool idea. Thanks. Can you convince my wife I need another camera?

Maybe I try this idea with the x100F that is getting dust with a cool fuji recipe.

Thanks for the inspiration!

I'd love to see what you create! I'm just getting started again. These images were from 2021. Different mindset!

This effect is so very cool. In my film-photography days (daze?) I loved the way a red filter darkened blue skies--creating dramatic contrast with the clouds. I recently tried to replicate this with the built-in red filter offered by OM Systems' OM-3, but, as you found with your Fujifilm experiment, the red filter just was not red enough.

So now I'm quite intrigued by Fujifilm Weekly's "Monochrome Red" recipe and your use of it. And I love your idea of locking yourself into one recipe and one lens. You've inspired me to try to recreate the recipe in the OM-3.

Or maybe someone has already done that!

What a progress in these photos. I really like the last half. You should do more like these!

And yes, definitively check out Ripley! It is great!

Thank you so much, Susanne! Yes, I went out yesterday to play around with it a bit more. I’m finding actually, that I don’t have to venture far or go any place special do create these kinds of images. It’s surprising how easily I can practice this even from the house. I will check out Ripley! Two recommendations already has piqued my interest.

Shooting film recipes is so much fun and you've got some great images out of it Juliette - I particularly like the second and last shots.

I use Fuji weekly recipes that I adjust to my liking as jpgs alongside raw files. My current favourites are Kodak Tri-x 400 which has lovely grain and Ilford PanF. I'd love to use my old Xpro-1 as a 'film only' camera but sadly it's circuit board died and they stopped making replacements...it's a shame as the sensor was the truest thing to film I'd used.

Finally I can second Todd's recommendation - Ripley is excellent, and if you like colour film 'Paris, Texas' by Wim Wenders has gorgeous cinematography. 😊

Wow, that's three recommendations for Ripley. OK, I'm sold! I'll also check out Paris Texas.... I'm glad I didn't sell my last Fujifilm. I do really love the camera and a couple of years ago started creating my own presets based off of the weekly recipes. I shot some more with it yesterday and will share what I got. I am very interested in the Xpro-2 as well but I truly don't need more cameras!!

Interesting post, Juliette! I always appreciate the cinematography of film noir, and just recently started watching the neo-noir series Ripley on Netflix. Interestingly, I went the opposite route with my Fujifilm camera—I sold all my full-frame gear five years ago and now shoot exclusively with Fuji. I love the form factor, size, and film profiles of the Fuji cameras, and for the most part, I don’t miss full-frame since I’m not currently making large prints.

I can appreciate that direction, Todd. I shoot Nikon FF and Olympus/Panasonic MFT. I loved Fuji but started wanting a different experience. They're still great cameras! I'll have to check out Ripley.
