Just got his book for Xmas. His work in Harlem during the height of Black Panthers is stunning.

Great story, beautifully written. Kudos. I'lll confess, I did not know of Gordon's work untill recently, he does not get nearly enough recognition as some of his peers do.

This was great. I knew a great deal about Gordon Parks but learned new things here.

I did a large series on Brown v. Board of Education last year that you might find interesting, including an interview with Cecil Williams, a photographer who captured most of the Civil Rights Movement in South Carolina. He was a great photographer. I had the opportunity to see him give a lecture on his work presented by the Detroit Institute of Art.

Great post Juliette. His work is so humanely touching. Truly inspiring!

I'm convinced Parks is the only photographer who has made a pretty decent film. Most who have tried haven't made a film as good as their still documentary work.

Thank you Xavi for that comment. Yes, he was multifaceted for certain. Such a rare gem!

What a great read. Thank you. Known the name and seen some work of Gordon Parks but never really dived into his life and work. This is a perfect reminder to get to know more.

I’m really glad I could introduce you to him, Susanne. I totally agree that he was so important to history. However, he is so underrated in the photography history books. I felt he deserved a little attention on the anniversary of his passing this week.
